I grew up loving cats and rescuing abandoned kittens on the way home from school.
Welcoming a Snow Lynx Bengal kitten into my life was a plunge into the unknown, driven by the allure of their activity, chattiness, and mischievous charm. Armed with a mere three months to transform into a reliable cat parent, my journey of research and preparation began. I felt confident, believing I had absorbed every nugget of Bengal cat wisdom.
Since I moved out to London I tried a few times to adopt a cat but my job didn’t allow me to be present enough so I gave up that thought in the meantime.
A few years later life changed so much and a Bengal kitten came into my life.
The reality was shocking. It felt exactly like having a child. After months of researching and planning this ball of happiness shook our house with her strident mews and demands, making myself question everything I knew and learned about cats until then.
Ever felt like cat parenting came with a manual missing? Me too. The frustration of not finding the right advice, of Googling in the middle of the night, brought to me the idea of creating a community where we could share our thoughts, advice, and questions. I had so many questions I couldn’t find answers to, or had too much conflicting information: Why is my baby cat sleeping, why is she not sleeping, is she eating enough, is she eating too much?! Do those questions sound familiar to you?
My love for my Bengal cat knows no bounds, and the idea of life without her is unimaginable. Yet, she demands attention and engagement similar to a child. The best workdays involve her snoozing on my desk while I am working, but there are challenging nights when her cries for interaction pierce the silence.
In this unpredictable journey, I’ve come to realize: Can I be considered a parent to this furry bundle of joy? Absolutely. Parenthood, in all its feline nuances, is a tale of love, surprises, and a profound connection that mirrors the bonds we share with our two-legged counterparts.
Choosing the right litter is like navigating a jungle, the catnip-infused toy aisle feels like a labyrinth. And let’s not even start on the perpetual dilemma of deciding on cat food – raw, cooked, wet, or dry? The questions don’t end there. How do you ensure a relaxing vet visit? What insurance plan provides the best safety net? Is it safe to let your cat roam freely, or does a tracker add an extra layer of security?
These are the common struggles of cat parents, a collective journey of uncertainties, laughter, and countless Google searches. Because in this limited time, we have with our non-verbal companions, our shared goal is to offer them the best life, filled with love, safety, and the occasional tree to climb. Together, we navigate the maze of cat parenthood.
Bengals aren’t just lively companions; they are delicate souls, intricately woven with dependency on human interaction and susceptibility to bouts of feline blues.
It’s a daily escapade into the feline world. From the puzzle of setting up a Christmas tree without it becoming a cat’s playground to crafting a zen trip to the vet, every day is a new chapter in our shared adventure.
Nevertheless, during this journey of learning about how to care for my precious Bengal Kitten, I’ve met lots of cat parents like me who have lots of questions or concerns about their Bengal cats.
Sadly, sometimes the frustration of not understanding their Bengal cat’s behavior leads to lots of health problems or even abandonment. Sometimes some small decisions that seem meaningless at that time affect dramatically your cat’s well-being and sadly they can’t communicate that to us in our language. We need to learn their “language”.
It was breaking my heart to see how many people want to give away their Bengal cats as they didn’t know how to look after them and they were living in a vicious circle where both the owner and the cat were unhappy.
Motivated by the desire to address these challenges, I want to create/build a community that offers fact-based and science-supported articles on Bengal cats’ behavior. The goal is to help cat parents become adept caregivers, fostering thriving relationships with their feline companions. I want a space where cat parents can find genuine, relatable, and reliable guidance.
The Vision of a Perfect World for Cat Owners: What’s the perfect world when you are a cat owner?
Imagine a world where every cat has an owner who knows and understands what their cat’s needs are, a world where cats are thriving. Because better owners equal better pets. It’s not just about surviving cat parenthood; it’s about thriving together and creating a bond that lasts a lifetime.
Did you know that, on average, 70,000 kittens are born worldwide every day? It’s a testament to the constant influx of feline magic into our lives.
Cats have whiskers on the backs of their front legs, as well.
Cats have nearly twice the amount of neurons in their cerebral cortex as dogs.
Cat parenthood isn’t just a role; it’s a symphony of sophistication and care, especially for the professional woman. In the whirlwind of career demands, our feline companions bring solace and joy. The resplendent charm of a Persian’s luxurious coat or the spirited energy of a Bengal’s playful antics is the perfect antidote to a demanding day.
